Who's who at the Board

It helps you and us if you know who to contact in our office about different issues.

Many of our staff now have direct-dial telephone numbers, allowing you to reach them direct without having to go through our switchboard. And it means that you may be able to reach them (or leave a message on voicemail for them) outwith our normal switchboard hours of 8.30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Departments such as those dealing with applications and accounts all have fax machines in their rooms, allowing you to contact them quickly when necessary. Using the wrong fax number means that an urgent fax may be delayed in reaching the correct department.

If you want to e-mail someone within the Board, their e-mail address is made up of their surname followed by the first two letters of their forename, followed by @slab.org.uk – for example, the address for our Manager of Communications, Colin Sim, is simco@slab.org.uk.

If you need to contact someone who is not on this list, and whose telephone number you don’t know, you can still reach them on our switchboard number, 0131 226 7061. If you have a general enquiry, our e-mail address is general@slab.org.uk, but you should avoid using this address for specific enquiries about applications or accounts, which you should address to the individuals shown below.

Finance has four divisions:

  • Accounting and Budgeting prepares the Annual Accounts and budgets, and monitors spending.
  • Receipts and Payments arranges payments to the profession; registers solicitors and firms on the database; records arrestment orders; deals with cash receipts; pays suppliers and staff.
  • Management Information Systems produces performance reports and statistics.
  • Purchasing and Supply arranges the supply of goods and services.

The Audit department is broken into four divisions:

  • Internal Audit provides an on-going assurance on the risk management, control and governance.
  • Assisted Person Investigations investigates claims applicants may have misled us about means.
  • Compliance audits firms’ compliance with codes relating to legal assistance and investigates alleged impropriety by solicitors and firms.
  • The Independent Checking and Quality Unit makes independent checks on the accuracy of decisions by Applications, Accounts and Treasury.
