 Getting legal help

Legal aid allows people who would not otherwise be able to afford it to get help for their legal problems. We can provide funding to help people who qualify to get legal advice and 'representation' (where a solicitor puts their case in court).

Our information leaflets contain helpful information. All are in pdf format. Some leaflets are available in other languages and formats.

   

Civil cases

  • For people who are applying or have applied for civil legal aid, your solicitor will give you our information booklet called: Civil legal aid - information for applicants. (Version effective July 2011. This combines our previous set of civil leaflets into one booklet and covers both civil legal aid and advice and assistance).
  • If you live in the Highlands and Islands, Aberdeen or Edinburgh and you are having difficulties finding legal help or the services of a solicitor then the Civil Legal Assistance Offices may be able to help you.
