Useful tips for our online search service to find the closest firm of legal aid solicitors to you:

  • If you have selected a particular category of civil case, you may not see many solicitor who are close to you. You may want to change your search to "All types of civil case" to see all the solicitors closest to you.
  • If you are looking for a particular type of expertise, use our categories of problems in civil cases.

  • You can move on to the next 10 solicitor offices by clicking on the text next 10 at the bottom of the listing of ten offices, just under the scroll bar.

  • Information on services provided by solicitor firms is provided by the firms themselves. In spring 2008, the Board asked for extra information on the services provided by firms. About half of all legal aid firms gave us this extra ifnormation. If you are searching for help with a civil case, searching using a specific category of case will let you use this up to date information.

  • Firms of solicitors who undertake legal assistance work have to be registered with the Board. You can view listings of registered firms - but please note that although a firm is registered for legal aid work, they may not be taking on new client cases.

  • Call our Legal Aid Helpline on 0845 122 8686 if you are finding it difficult to find a legal aid solicitor or to use our online search.

  • We would welcome your comments on our find my nearest legal aid solicitor service - please send us an email with your comments - let us know what is helpful or useful, if you had problems with it, or if there is extra information you would like us to show.
