Tuesday 26 January 1999
Richard Scott is leaving the position of Chief Executive of the Scottish
Legal Aid Board with immediate effect. His leaving follows differences
of view between him and the Board regarding management issues and,
in particular, proposed changes to the operational structure of the
Board.
The Board will seek to appoint a new Chief Executive shortly. In the
meantime, responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the Board
will rest with the Executive Directors and the management team, supported
by the Chairman and Members of the Board.
Chairman Jean Couper stated, "The Board is confident this situation
will not adversely affect the day-to-day operation of the Board. We
will continue to meet all our responsibilities to assisted persons,
the legal profession and taxpayers. I have every confidence in the
commitment and ability of all our staff to ensure we continue to provide
the highest standards of service to all our customers and to meet the
challenges ahead."
