Guidance for opponents

Someone involved in a civil court case may apply for legal aid and if you are also involved in the case, this could affect you. If you are the opponent of someone who has applied for civil legal aid, you have the right to object to an application for, or grant of, civil legal aid.


A guide to civil legal aid (April 2008 edition)

Civil legal assistance helps people to get legal advice (“advice and assistance”) and the help of a solicitor to put their civil case in court (“civil legal aid”). This leaflet explains more about these types of assistance and helps you work out whether you are likely to qualify financially

Legal aid is not always free. This leaflet gives guidance for applicants for civil advice and assistance and civil legal aid about what you might have to pay towards your legal aid if you win or keep money or property as a result of your case.

Advice and assistance Equality Card

When you apply for advice and assistance, your solicitor will ask you to read our Equality Card, to let them complete the application form. The card is used by your solicitor.
