How do I find a solicitor who is registered to provide civil legal assistance?
You can only apply for legal aid through a solicitor. The Scottish Legal Aid Board does not provide legal advice.
The solicitor may work in:
- a private solicitors' firm
- a law centre
- one of the Civil Legal Assistance Offices which are operated by the Board in Inverness, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Argyll & Bute. Find out more about the Civil Legal Assistance Offices.
- an advice agency. Find out more about the services we fund.
The solicitor must be registered with the Board in order to provide legal aid funded services.
To find a solicitor or search the register of civil legal aid solicitors:
- use our Solicitor Finder
- or call our legal aid information line on 0845 122 8686
- or look in a phone book or contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau
