Civil Legal Assistance Offices (CLAO)
We run four Civil Legal Assistance Offices (CLAO). These operate in a similar way to private solicitors' firms but the solicitors are employed by SLAB.
Each of the offices works in partnership with other local solicitors and agencies in the area. The CLAO acts as a referral office for local service providers or, where no other solicitor or agency can be found, they may be able to take the case.
If you are eligible, they can advise and represent you and apply for legal aid on your behalf, just like a solicitor in a private firm or in a law centre. They do not deal with criminal cases.
You can find out more at the Civil Legal Assistance Office website.
