We have recently come across a number of cases where we have granted increases in authorised expenditure to enable the instruction of counsel to undertake certain work which has not involved appearing before a superior court but at the accounts stage it has become apparent that a solicitor advocate has been instructed to do the work authorised.

We are continuing to receive invoices submitted with requests for reimbursement of outlays or final accounts which provide little or no detail of how the fee has been arrived at. This is causing additional administration for us and the solicitor as we have to ask for a breakdown.

Requests for ABWOR in increase applications

Most solicitors apply for ABWOR in initial advice and assistance applications (up to the current authorised limit of expenditure of £95) and thereafter submit an increase request to carry out various work items such as preparation and attendance at a children’s hearing.
