REMINDER: Interim solemn payments trial due to end 17th March

Wednesday, Mar 09, 2016

The trial period for the extended interim payment arrangement ends on Thursday 17th March 2016.

As our previous update stated, we have been accepting interim accounts for payment of solicitor fees in solemn criminal proceedings for a trial period. An account can be submitted as part of the trial where:

  • 12 months or more has elapsed since the grant of solemn criminal legal aid ; or
  • a trial diet has been set for a date at least 6 months from the First Diet or Preliminary Hearing; or
  • where the trial has been adjourned for a period of 6 months or more; or
  • the fees properly incurred exceed £10,000.

The trial will close on 17th March 2016. We will then assess the impact of the trial over the course of the next few months as we track final accounts assessment in those cases where interim fees have been paid.
