Improved criminal legal aid online mandates to be used from 23 June
Friday, Jun 17, 2016
As our previous update explained, new and improved versions of our online mandates must be used from Thursday 23 June 2016.
We thought it would be useful to give you more details about these updated criminal documents.
Firstly, we’d like to let you know that the new mandates have been renamed declarations. This is to help members of the public be clearabout the form's function and provide a more accurate description of its purpose.
More significantly, we have revised the following criminal legal aid online declarations, which you can now view by clicking on the links below:
• LAO/APP 1 (we explain the changes to the LAO/APP form below)
• LAO/APP 2
Following comments and feedback from solicitors, the declarations all now have a standardised style and are in-line with recommended accessibility standards. They have also been redesigned, and in some cases expanded, to help you gather the financial information needed from your client to speed up the application process.
The accompanying guidance for the declarations has also been updated and posted on our website. From 23 June the previous online mandate versions of the forms will no longer be accepted and their continued use could lead to an account’s rejection or issues during future audits.
There are now two separate LAO/APP declarations for appeals – one for where legal aid was granted at the court of the first instance (LAO/APP/1) and one for when it was not (LAO/APP/2).
If legal aid was granted at the court of the first instance then we do not require further financial details of your client so LAO/APP/1 is an abridged form which saves you filling out and printing off unnecessary pages.
If you have any queries about this update or comments on the new LAOL declarations please contact:
