LAOL new account screens and guidance

Friday, Sep 23, 2016

We have prepared guidance for changes that are being made to the Legal Aid Online system during the evening of the 26th September.

Please note that WEBINARS are available for all new account products. Details on how to take part are at the end of the update.

This update provides information on the following developments:

Duty accounts

To create a duty claim you should now select the ‘Duty’ tab.

Selecting the duty tab will open the ‘Create Duty’ screen.  You should then select the duty type you wish to create.  All duty accounts including duty follow up and duty ID parade can now be submitted using the new account screens.

All new duty accounts should be submitted using the redevelopment screens.

You will still be able to use the old screens to finalise and submit draft accounts.  You will still be able to access the old screens by selecting the ‘duty scheme’ tab.  A paper account will still be accepted where you are submitting a duty follow up claim and the original duty scheme claim was submitted using the old account screens.

Guidance on how to submit duty accounts using the new accounts screen is available here.

Solemn accounts

Following the deployment you will now be able to use the online system to submit a solemn reduced to summary account where a guilty plea has been entered.

Changes to questions that appear when you create Civil A&A accounts

When submitting a tandem civil A&A account if you are satisfied that there is no recovery you will now be directed to the new screens.  Where there has been or there remains the possibility of a recovery you will be directed to the old screens.   You must answer the questions accurately as your account may be rejected if it appears from the entries in your account that the wrong option has been chosen.

If you are directed to the old account screens and choose to send a paper account you will need to request an old paper synopsis.  To request a synopsis open the view case screen and from ‘case actions’ select Requests Synopsis.

Changes to electronic synopsis – paper accounts

We have made changes to the way you now input your breakdown.  When you select the ‘Work breakdown’ tab all the expenditure types that are available for the account type you are lodging will be displayed. The expenditure types that are displayed will initially contain a negative value.

To complete the account you should select each expenditure type and then enter the amount you are claiming. Any expenditure types where there is no claim will need to be changed from the negative value shown of: -£1.00 to £0.00.

We would also like to remind you that when claiming paper work items you must ensure that the expenditure breakdown dates you have entered reflect the date of the last work undertaken.

Further guidance on how to submit the paper account is available in our guidance section.

Training and guidance

We have set up a guidance section on our website where you will be able to access training videos and interactive PDFs for the Phase 1 and 2 products.

Please open this page and bookmark it so that you are able to access it easily whenever necessary. A link to the guidance section has also been added to the LAOL login screen.

WEBINARS are available for all new account products.
