Civil legal aid case cost limits uprated by 25%

With immediate effect we have uprated our standard case cost limits by 25%.

The changes are being made as part of our programme of continuous improvement and feedback from solicitors.

These identified that the values of our case cost limits should be uprated in line with fee increases which have taken place since the limits were introduced.

This will help reduce the number of times you need to have contact with us during the life of a civil case.

What do the uprated case cost limits apply to?

The new limits will apply to any applications for civil legal aid submitted on or after 17 July 2025.

The case cost limits for existing applications remain unchanged.

You can still apply for a case cost increase where required. Please see our full case cost limits guidance.

If you are applying for an increase up to the new limit value on an old case, then it will be granted without further enquiry by us.

More improvements coming

Further improvements to our civil legal aid prior approval templates are planned for later in the year, and more information will follow.

These improvements will include a better explanation of the circumstances in which the template can be used, and the work covered by the template grant.

Improvements to the A&A templates are going to be looked at in the next stage of our continuous improvement programme.  Within the next quarter we will be uprating the family mediation A&A template.
