Update: Change to Police Scotland Custody Reference Numbers

Within our online system for claiming fees for Police Station advice cases, you need to supply the Police Scotland National Custody System (NCS) Unique Reference Number (URN).

This NCS URN has always been a 6 digit number, but new cases are now being issued with a 7 digit number.

We have been working to amend the system to allow a 7 digit number to be entered and the soonest we can schedule this is 2 November 2021.

In the meantime, claims can still be made in the following way:

  • Leave the ‘Police Scotland National Custody System Unique Reference Number’ blank
  • Where you are asked if no reference exists, choose the option ‘Client elsewhere other than a police station’
  • When asked to provide the name and address of the other location, you should provide the 7 digit reference, and the name of the Police Station involved.

This should allow you to continue with the claim as normal. An example of how this looks on the system is shown below:

We will issue another update as soon as the system has been amended to accept the 7 digit number.

Your assistance with this is much appreciated.
