We’re looking for a Policy Officer to join our Policy & Development team and help drive our work on mainstreaming equalities across the organisation.

In this key role, you’ll be part of a small, supportive team responsible for embedding the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) into SLAB’s core activities: shaping policy, supporting colleagues, and making a difference for people across Scotland.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting teams across SLAB to complete and improve Equality Impact Assessments (EqIAs)
  • Developing equality outcomes that align with our strategic goals and monitoring progress
  • Leading on equality-related projects, including training delivery, stakeholder engagement, data analysis, and reporting
  • Ensuring compliance with Scottish specific duties and wider equalities legislation
  • Working closely with colleagues at all levels, including senior management, to champion and deliver on our equality commitments.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A strong understanding of equalities legislation and experience applying it in practice
  • Proven ability to conduct or support EqIAs
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to produce clear, evidence-based recommendations
  • A proactive, adaptable approach and good organisational skills to manage deadlines and competing priorities.
