Play a key role in building and improving the digital systems that support access to justice in Scotland. Working within an Agile delivery team, you’ll help modernise both public-facing and internal legal aid systems, ensuring they are secure, reliable, and built to last.
This is a hands-on role for an experienced developer with a positive, improvement-focused attitude who’s ready to bring curiosity, resilience, and commitment to building better services.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and contributing to the design, build, and delivery of modern web applications using React and Java/Spring
- Applying sound software architecture and design principles to improve system robustness, resilience, and scalability
- Building and maintaining secure, well-designed REST APIs and integrations
- Mentoring and supporting other developers, raising overall engineering standards
- Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues to maintain stable, reliable services
- Working closely with product, testing, and stakeholder colleagues during the delivery lifecycle.
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- Strong experience developing production systems using React, Java, Spring, and relational databases
- A solid understanding of information security and how to design secure services by default
- Experience working in Agile teams, with a clear focus on user needs and accessibility
- The ability to design, review, and improve systems of moderate complexity
- A strong work ethic, good judgement, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving
- A genuine interest in building high-quality public services that make a real difference.
