Outlays payable for experts located at a distance from court: information you should provide

We are sometimes asked to grant an increase in authorised expenditure under advice and assistance to employ a medical or other expert witness located at some distance from the court, elsewhere in the UK or abroad.

Such a request is competent but you must satisfy us that you have not only made some inquiry into the likely costs of employing the expert concerned and what these costs are, but also into the availability of such an expert closer to the court.  In the interests of economy, we would expect you to use an equally qualified expert closer to the court, if available and appropriate to do so.
