Report on findings from the Criminal Quality Assurance Scheme for Criminal Legal Assistance for 2024-25

The latest Annual Report on the Criminal Quality Assurance Scheme (QAS) has now been published.

The report sets out the statistics, issues and findings of the Criminal QAS for the period 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025.

The report shows that 95% of the peer reviews conducted during the year resulted in a pass, with only two fails.

Two of the three follow up reviews were passed, suggesting that the scheme is still meeting its dual aims of providing assurance and driving continuous improvement.

The Criminal Quality Assurance Committee sees that part of its role is to help share good practice found in the peer reviews, and areas for improvement to help improve the quality of service given to clients.

The report details several areas of good practice, alongside some recurring issues, with a few anonymised quotes from the peer review reports to highlight these.
