SLAB welcomes publication of Scottish Government response to Legal Aid Review

We welcome the publication today of the Scottish Government’s response to the Legal Aid Review and the commitment it contains to preserving the scope and improving the operation of Scotland’s legal aid system.

We particularly welcome the opportunity to develop a new statutory framework. We look forward to contributing both to the development of future legislation and the implementation of shorter term improvements, including the increase in fees announced by Ms Denham.

We agree fully with Ms Denham’s recognition that constructive joint working with the legal profession will be key to the identification and delivery of future improvements. We look forward to playing our part in this process, building on the strengths of the current system and the commitment of all those who work within it.
