Corporate Plan 2023-26 published with objectives aimed at supporting publicly funded legal assistance to help make Scotland fairer

We have published our new three year Corporate Plan today.
The plan has a continued focus on making legal assistance available to those eligible for it while advising ministers on what we hope is a reformed system of legal aid post 2026.

The plan sets out our four corporate objectives, concentrating on ensuring high quality administration of the current legal aid system (be it services provided by private firms or our own direct services); investing in our staff to assist us in shaping a future legal aid system; and advising the Scottish Government on the best form that a reformed system could take.

Central to the 2023-26 plan are a number of important building blocks:

  • Our purpose – why we’re here
  • Our mission – how we accomplish our purpose and move towards the future
  • Our principles – the rules that govern our work
  • Our values – our standards of behaviour
  • Our vision – where we aspire to be.

Colin Lancaster, Chief Executive of the Scottish Legal Aid Board, said:

“The purpose, mission, vision, principles, and values set out in this plan are the foundations on which we will build the delivery of our objectives.

As we engaged with our staff and Board members during the development of this plan, two consistent themes emerged: this planning period will shape the future of legal aid and of the Scottish Legal Aid Board, and that shape will determine for years to come legal aid’s role in making Scotland fairer.”
