Quick guide added on interpreting and translation costs

We’ve recently had to deal with a few cases where solicitors have not been aware of the terms of our guidance on interpreting and translation.

As a result, they have made mistakes which caused significant difficulties for them at the accounts stage, resulting in us being unable to pay substantial invoices for this work.

The problems have cropped up because either the solicitor has not made it clear to the interpreter or translator that the case was being funded by legal aid, or because the solicitor has not checked the hourly rate the interpreter or translator intended to charge.

We’re keen to avoid anyone else making these potentially costly mistakes, so we’ve prepared a quick guide to help you avoid the possible pitfalls when using a translator or interpreter.

The new guide has been added to the ‘Time saving tips‘ page linked to from the top of each aid type’s legal aid guidance section:

The guide has links to the full legal aid guidance.
