31 March 2026
To increase the security on our systems we are introducing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for users of Legal Aid Online (LAOL) on the evening of Monday 13 April.
We will be updating our LAOL service to use the Scottish Government-developed ScotAccount, which will enhance the protection already on our systems.
The LAOL system will be unavailable for up to an hour from 7pm on Monday 13 April to allow us to implement the system updates.
We initially communicated our intention to use ScotAccount in December 2025.
A dedicated webpage has been set up on our website with information you need to prepare for the move to ScotAccount.
This has guidance videos to help you check that your details on LAOL are up to date, how to update them, if required, and the new login process.
Webinars informing you how the move to ScotAccount will integrate into our system, demonstrating how to create your ScotAccount and the new way to login to LAOL have been running since February and continue twice weekly.
Participation in the webinars has been very positive with over 100 solicitors, administrators and law accountants attending the sessions.
If you have not yet attended a webinar, they continue to run weekly at the following times:
There is no is requirement to prebook a webinar.
Details of how to join the webinars will be given on the banner when you log into LAOL. Simply click to join at the time a webinar starts.
If you have any questions, please email us at MFA@slab.org.uk.
You can find more information and guidance on the move to ScotAccount on our website.
