Travel mileage rate increase (effective 1 April 2026)

We wish to advise that the travel mileage rate payable in legal aid cases has been updated in line with HMRC published rates.

With effect from 1 April 2026, the mileage rate has increased from £0.45 per mile to £0.55 per mile.

This revised rate applies to mileage incurred on or after 1 April 2026. Claims for mileage prior to this date will continue to be charged at the previous rate of £0.45 per mile.

How to claim the increased rate

At present our systems have not yet been updated to reflect this revised rate. We are taking the necessary steps to implement the change as quickly as possible.

In the meantime, we will manually adjust any work items for mileage to reflect the correct rate.

For claims already processed at the previous rate, you may submit a supplementary claim for the difference in mileage.
