What is a personal data breach?

A personal data breach is defined by the Information Commissioner’s Office as “a breach of security leading to the accidental or unlawful destruction, loss, alteration, unauthorised disclosure of, or access to, personal data transmitted, stored or otherwise processed”.

This includes breaches that are the result of both accidental and deliberate causes.

If you have concerns that your personal data has been subject to a data breach, or you have received personal data relating to another individual in error, please contact our Data Protection Officer.
