Solicitor censured for repeatedly failing to respond to SLAB letters
The Scottish Solicitors’ Discipline Tribunal has censured John Buchanan, solicitor, of Buchanan Burton Solicitors, 2 Strathmore House, Princes Square, East Kilbride, after he pled guilty to failing to respond timeously and accurately to reasonable enquiries made of him by the Scottish Legal Aid Board.

Applicant Fined £1,500 for Legal Aid Fraud
Investigations by the Scottish Legal Aid Board’s applicant investigations team have led to the conviction of Patrick Black (DOB 13/01/1953) after he pled guilty to obtaining legal assistance fraudulently.

Timetable for development of options for contracting
The Scottish Government has issued an indicative timetable for the development of options for contracts for the provision of legally aided criminal casework services. The timetable indicates that the earliest possible date for introduction of contracts is early 2015.

Children’s Legal Assistance and Duty Scheme registration update
The initial deadline for registration applications for children’s legal assistance and the duty scheme was 17 May 2013. So far, 503 solicitors have applied to register to undertake children’s legal assistance and 318 have applied to register for the duty scheme. We are considering and responding to all applications. If you have applied you should hear from us shortly. You can still apply for either the general scheme or duty scheme and we will do our best to deal with applications before 24 June 2013.
