There are various reasons why a solicitor is not able to take your case, including:

• They are not taking on new clients.
• They do not deal with your type of case.
• They do not have anyone available to work on your case.
• Your issue may not be a legal one requiring a solicitor.

If you contact a solicitor and they are unable to take your case, you can:

• Contact other solicitors listed in our Solicitor Finder.
• Look at other places where advice is available.

No. Solicitors may work in:

• A private solicitors' firm.
• A law centre.
• One of the Civil Legal Assistance Offices which are operated by us in Inverness, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Argyll & Bute. They can provide advice and representation in civil cases.
• One of the Public Defence Solicitors' Offices which are operated by us in Ayr, Dundee, Edinburgh, Falkirk, Glasgow, Inverness and Kirkwall. They can provide advice and representation in criminal cases.
• An advice agency.

The information we hold on firms has been provided by solicitor firms or organisations. It is reliant upon them keeping us up-to-date on any changes.

Only basic information is provided for firms who haven't supplied us with details of the case types they handle or office accessibility details.

Please be aware that if no local firm is listed when you search under a specific civil category, use all types of cases. This will find the largest number of solicitor firms closest to you who may undertake that kind of case but may not have told us.
